Many thanks to Rebecca Lindenberg and Carolina Ebeid for their time this evening. As part of a series on post-MFA life, the program held an informal chat with these two outstanding poets about fellowships, cover letters, residencies, grants, and much more. There was pizza and good times all around.
People are reading this Friday. These people are Ryan Ikeda, Caleb Johnson, and Kali Fajardo-Anstine. When you preform a Google image search for these people, many images of people who are not Ryan, Caleb, and Kali appear.
Don’t miss out on the reading this Friday, Nov. 2nd, at Night Heron Books, 6pm.
Congratulations to second-year poetry candidate, Brock Michael Jones, who was named a finalist in the Iowa Review’s Jeff Sharlet Memorial Prize for Veterans. The contest is for U.S. military veterans and active duty personnel. It is hosted by The Iowa Review and made possible by a gift from the family of Jeff Sharlet (1942–69), a Vietnam veteran and antiwar writer and activist. The contest is open to veterans and active duty personnel writing in any genre and about any subject matter.
We couldn’t be more proud of Brock. What wonderful, wonderful news!
Congratulations to Callan Wink on his latest story in The New Yorker. It was a pleasure to read an early version of Callan’s story in Alyson Hagy’s fiction workshop last spring.
Tonight don’t miss a reading by Erin Fortenberry, Lauren Trembath-Neuberger, and Rebecca Estee. 7pm, The Quadra Dangle, 3905 Grays Gable Road, FREE/FREE/FREE
For those of you who don’t know, CAConrad describes himself as “the son of white trash asphyxiation whose childhood included selling cut flowers along the highway for his mother and helping her shoplift,” and we were lucky enough to have this incredible poet visit UW last week. His visit included a reading at Night Heron books where he read from his collection The Book of Frank, as well as his latest A Beautiful Marsupial Afternoon. He also hosted one of his somatic workshops where new ideas for poetry/art/creation are generated through a series of exercises. These included dark chocolate and essential oils. Essentially, we love CA at UW. We hope he visits us again soon!
