I know I’m late, years late, on this, but if you visit Matador now, you can see a nice list of “The 50 Most Inspiring Travel Quotes.” Among them is Wyoming’s Mark Jenkins, who says:

“Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.”

I know it’s not quite what Jenkins mentions, but I did feel adventurous leaving the house this week. High winds closed interstates and canceled flights. There’s a layer of ice under my car, and there has been for more than a week. You really feel Wyoming this time of year. The good is that the air smells nice, fresh. You take the good with the at-times harsh, I suppose.
